Craft tutorial: A Paper Mâché Puppet Part 1

I made this puppet of Cleopatra when I was about 12 and I thought she was so beautiful! Our class did not finish the project which was unfortunate, so I've decided to redo the whole thing.

You will need:

  • Lots of newspaper
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 2 large mixing bowls
  • 1 roll of foil
  • masking tape
  • 1 empty toilet paper roll
  • scissors
  • large work area that can get messy

Tear the newspaper first and create a large pile.

Mix the flour with a small amount of water until it thickens to this consistency:

Steps: 1. Roll few bits of newspaper into a ball. It should be about the size of your fist. 2. Attach the ball to the toilet roll. 3. Use masking tape to secure it in place. 4. Wrap foil around the ball to mold it into the shape of a head.

Now cover the head with a single and light layer of newspaper strips dipped into the mixture. allow to dry completely.

I will post Part 2 as soon as our puppets are made. xxQuaymberley.
